The Purple Star School designation recognizes schools that have made a significant commitment to creating a military-friendly environment and ensuring that military-connected students receive the support they need to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Schools earning the designation provide specialized training for staff, establish systems to support student transitions and demonstrate a deep understanding of the unique experiences military families face.

Military-connected students often encounter challenges that most of their peers never experience. The average military-connected student will move six to nine times during their school years, often changing schools, communities, academic expectations and social networks. Frequent relocations can make transitions difficult and create additional academic and emotional stress for students and their families.

Recognizing these challenges, Davis School District has partnered with the Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs to provide comprehensive support services through the district's Military Support Team. This team helps ensure military families are welcomed, supported and connected from the moment they enter a Davis school.

The Military Support Team also partners closely with schools by providing staff training, assisting schools seeking Purple Star designation and helping organize activities such as Purple Up and Month of the Military Child celebrations. Through these efforts, schools are better equipped to understand and support the needs of military-connected students and families.

Davis School District's continued growth in the Purple Star program reflects a districtwide commitment to ensuring that students connected to the nation's armed forces feel welcomed, valued and supported. By investing in specialized training, dedicated support personnel and military-friendly school practices, the district is helping students successfully navigate the unique challenges that come with military life while ensuring they have every opportunity to learn, grow and succeed.

Congratulations to the 21 schools earning Purple Star recognition this year and thank you to the educators, counselors, administrators and support staff whose dedication has helped make Davis School District a statewide leader in serving military-connected students and families.
